The City of Maryville has hired SK Design Group, Inc. to perform preliminary engineering and a traffic study on the South Main Corridor. The goals of this study include, but are not limited to the following:
- Decrease traffic congestion while increasing safety along the corridor
- Increase pedestrian access to businesses and residential developments along the corridor
- Conceptualize and estimate costs for traffic solutions in the South Main corridor including east-west through streets between South Avenue and Route V, if necessary
The study is anticipated to take approximately nine (9) to ten (10) months from the kickoff meeting to approval of the final document. It is anticipated that the study document will guide future decision making for infrastructure investments and South Main development decisions.
This page is intended to keep residents and users of the South Main Street corridor updated on the project.
Task I - Public Involvement Process and Data Collection
Public Involvement
Public involvement is an essential component of the South Main corridor study and plays a key role in identifying critical issues and policy recommendations for the corridor. The public involvement process for this project includes:
- Organization of a South Main Street Committee composed of public representatives from both public and private sectors to provide input and guidance through the planning process.
- Creation of a Community Opinion Survey to identify issues of concern within the corridor. Please assist us with the completion of the survey below!
- Creation of a project specific webpage to receive input and share information. Please continue to visit this page for additional information and progress!
- Public meetings and workshops throughout the planning process to assist parties in understanding the issues and reach a majority level of consensus regarding practical solutions for the corridor.
Data Collection
Data collection is critical to providing the basis of accurate information to identify issues and solutions for the corridor. The data collection for this project includes:
Reviewing the Maryville Comprehensive Plan to obtain information pertinent to this project including existing and future zoning and land use demands.
Obtaining information on the utility systems, drainage systems, and natural resources within the corridor.
Obtaining most recent 3-year crash history.
Conducting traffic volume counts at key (major) intersections where no data is available on file. Traffic counts are now complete and included peak hour turning movement counts at South Ave, McDonalds, Hy-Vee, both Walmart drives, South Hills, Summit Street, Kawasaki drive, and Highway 71 ByPass. Based on traffic count information, a traffic simulation model for existing and proposed conditions will be completed over the next few weeks.
Obtaining other field data (i.e. spot speed, sight distance, signal timing and phasing, etc.)
